Dr Chrysanthi Georgiou

Dr Georgiou obtained her medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2010. She then went on to complete her internship at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child and Helen Joseph Hospital Complex. After this, she spent her community service year at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She completed her specialist training in 2017, becoming a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. She obtained her sub-specialisation in Fetal and Maternal Medicine in 2020 after a fellowship at the University of the Witwatersrand. She worked as a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as head of a high-risk obstetric unit as well as part of the fetal medicine team at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child hospital from 2017.

Dr Georgiou is an honorary lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand, involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate training. She is still actively involved in the fetal medicine units of both Rahima Moosa Mother and Child and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospitals. She is an MMed supervisor and has been involved in several publications. She holds a Master's degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, which has been presented several times at national and international congresses. Dr Georgiou is currently completing a Master of Science degree in Maternal and Fetal Medicine.

She is a member of the South African Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SASUOG), South African Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SASOG) and a member of the Society of Obstetric Medicine of South Africa (SOOMSA). She is also a member of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG). Dr Georgiou is accredited for first-trimester screening with the Fetal Medicine Foundation.

Dr Georgiou is passionate about the field of Maternal and Fetal Medicine and women’s health and believes that it is a true privilege to be part of such a dynamic and cutting edge field. She strives to stay at the forefront of the field in order to provide holistic and comprehensive care to all her patients. Family is the centre of her universe, and she spends most of her spare time engaging in family activities, living her life to the motto of 'La Vita E Bella', which means ‘Life is beautiful.’
